Watching the Dodgers this year has given me a fatalistic end game. I think the offense & defense is more a problem than pitching. An injured rental, who knows how badly, does nothing to help. Yes, more moves may come but not really confident in anything that makes a difference.
I suppose that kind of thinking precludes a team suddenly getting it together. Oh, say like the Nationals team of 2019 and going on a run. We have the pieces to make it happen, so I am of those who figure we are in it until the last out. We are on a pace to make the playoffs and we are getting as close to healthy as we have been all season. A move like Danny Duffy doesn't move the needle today, but in September or October, who knows? If this is the only move Friedman makes, I will be disappointed, but I am not going to throw in the towel. Now, I would be lying if I said I was confident in us finishing strong - one too many Bellinger in the lineup and one too many Dave Roberts running the show - but I can be optimistic. For a team which has lost three of it's starting pitchers before the deadline and has seen, arguably, two of it's best players miss substantial time and another guy who if his head wasnt fully in his ass, might actually contribute and we are only three games out, I would be excited about said team. I just don't get the doom and gloom. I might get unhappy about how a game is managed, but by the next afternoon, I am good. Call it Lil Orphan Annie thinking, but like has been said before, it isn't life or death.
