Duffy is a decent lefty arm and when healthy, a plus to our rotation. He wasnt' my first choice, but the cost is marginal. We still have options and if Duffy can win us a game or two in October, I am pretty happy.
I’m really happy because it’s a trade for a competent arm cheap it appears. Duffy is a classic AF low risk move to save resources. My gut feel is that the bought super low and if he doesn’t pan out then nothing much lost. Better than emptying the system for Scherzer only to have no leverage in the Winter.

My guess is that they go big on a BP arm now. I am thinking Kennedy or Kimbrel.

If this is the only add to the rotation and he's not going to be available until late August (and then need to ramp up) then they sure need to shore up the BP.

Geez. One deal and you are already throwing in the towel? We still have a fair amount of prospect capital to deal and the deadline isn't for another 21 hours. I guess we are not allowed to make multiple moves.
Watching the Dodgers this year has given me a fatalistic end game. I think the offense & defense is more a problem than pitching. An injured rental, who knows how badly, does nothing to help. Yes, more moves may come but not really confident in anything that makes a difference.

That's why I'd hate to see the Dodgers give up anything of value for any rental players as I think it is likely to be futile given what's reportedly available.

Plus, Duffy incurred this injury in the middle of May, was out 2 months, came back for a short time, then went down w/the same injury a couple weeks ago. Low risk high reward on him seems very optimistic. AF loves him some shopping at the Mayo Clinic.

BC, to be completely fair, you’re usually on a “fatalistic end game” with the Dodgers...

Looks to me like it is more like buying a lottery ticket.

Now go sign Cole Hamels for a bucket of balls, and we’re ready for war...

Pretty much. I still think they are looking at SP's and RP's. This is a nothing move that isn't going to do much in the current need situation but could be a find come crunch time. They only have limited resources for a big move/s and Duffy, if he can get healthy will contribute. If not then it's just a fart in the wind.

What concerns me is that it appears that the FO is myopically focusing on one need which is pitching while just expecting the return of Seager and Mookie will magically cure all ills. Mookie is not having a horrible year. It's not great by his standards but .270 and 14 HR's would be a prayer answered if we were talking about Bellinger. Mookie though is on the Mike Trout level though.

This team is bad at the dish and Defensively. You can have 3 CY Young Award winners as your top 3 but if you can't score any runs, you will lose all your games because teams will wear you down like what has been happening this year. One mistake and the game is over.

Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo to the NYY for OF Kevin Alcantara & RH Alexander Vizcaino.

The Cubs will also pay all of Rizzo’s remaining salary.

The Yankees have really become an example of desperation. They look like they have lost control and are just swinging for the fences even though they are pretty much done this year.

I suppose that kind of thinking precludes a team suddenly getting it together. Oh, say like the Nationals team of 2019 and going on a run. We have the pieces to make it happen, so I am of those who figure we are in it until the last out. We are on a pace to make the playoffs and we are getting as close to healthy as we have been all season. A move like Danny Duffy doesn't move the needle today, but in September or October, who knows? If this is the only move Friedman makes, I will be disappointed, but I am not going to throw in the towel. Now, I would be lying if I said I was confident in us finishing strong - one too many Bellinger in the lineup and one too many Dave Roberts running the show - but I can be optimistic. For a team which has lost three of it's starting pitchers before the deadline and has seen, arguably, two of it's best players miss substantial time and another guy who if his head wasnt fully in his ass, might actually contribute and we are only three games out, I would be excited about said team. I just don't get the doom and gloom. I might get unhappy about how a game is managed, but by the next afternoon, I am good. Call it Lil Orphan Annie thinking, but like has been said before, it isn't life or death.

It just seems like Prince Hal is determined to live up to the reputation of his dad.

What are the Cubs doing? Dealing Rizzo seems counterproductive.
Complete teardown. I figure by tomorrow, anyone making any money short of Heyward, Bote and Hendricks is gone. For a farm system that is in bad shape, they are adding strong pieces. Gotta figure the three guys they got today are all headed for the Cubs' top ten.

Chargois and a prospect to Tampa for Diego Castillo. Should've probably said that Chargois is pitching his ass off for the Mariners until yesterday.
Did not realize Castillo was the closer in Tampa, so that makes me wonder what is their next move. I guess going after Kennedy, Kimbrel or Bard. That move doesn't really compute. I guess it is the Rays' continuing to add to their prospect capital and hot having to pay Castillo bigger money in arbitration.
