If the reason is some bad clubhouse behavior, then why tell the world he can't trust Puig after that play & he's out of the lineup today to give his team the best chance to win. It's all BS because Puig on the field is better than anyone who plays in the OF & gives them a better chance to win. He IS a lightning rod. I contend that Roberts look at himself & the epic collapse for all his terrible managing.

There is a huge difference between a TOOTBLAN caused by over aggressive effort versus Puig's deal last night. He attempted to steal with a stop sign. That's bad enough when it's the last out of the game, but to go into second base without sliding is just unforgivable. If you don't want to slide, why are you trying to steal without authorization. Sorry, but that was just a doubly dump play by Puig.
I respectfully disagree. You never go into any base standing if there is even a chance of a play on you. Maybe he mistimed his approach to the bag (it's a set number of steps every time), but to just go in like that was BS. Roberts said he did not have a steal sign.
To say "I felt like I twisted my ankle" to explain going in standing, doesn't wash.
As bad as Roberts is strategically, he always has a player's back if there is any defense possible. For him to be visibly upset (the day after clinching) shows a lot, and it's not on Roberts.

Morrow showed that he not only has great stuff, but that he has a closer's mentality. I mean, he comes in there pumping in 99 mph fastballs and a couple of breaking balls and sets the Gnats down on eight pitches. Not that it was an important game, but he closed with aplomb.
Hope we pay to lock him up next year, but it won't be cheap.

Again, it was a bad/stupid attempt by Puig but there was NO STEAL OR STOP SIGN because Roberts gives his players free reign. That's why Roberts is pissed because he trusts that they will play smart baseball & this was stupid. J Hairston just confirmed this on Dodger Talk. There are times when Roberts will call double steals or gets the runner moving off 1st to stay away from a DP but the majority of steals/attempts are player choices. I say he should take charge in more situations & give players STOP SIGNS or take signs on 3-0 counts, another situation in which he lets his players decide.
It looked to me after looking at many replays that Puig clearly felt something midway to second and pulled up to avoid hurting himself further. He slowed down way before he didn't slide and while he still had a chance to make it in safely. There was zero point in him risking additional injury given they had already clinched compared to the need for him to be heathy for the post season. That's how I see it, anyway.
