Roberts is a guy who has never had to answer much and doesn't know how to do damage control. Watching him since he took over, he has rarely had to answer for mistakes and when he does, he gets chippy. It's arrogance and lack of experience. He is lying about Hill. When you look at the optics on this, they are pretty bad when you add up his quick trigger last year in the WS. He is used to the safety of local media and is shielded from the mainstream media. In the playoffs and especially in the WS, every media eye that covers baseball is on this team and his mistakes are out there for the world to see.
He doesn't have confidence in Hill for some reason and he has unsupportable confidence in Jansen and Madson. Roberts doesn't possess the ability to see what is right in front of him and goes with the guys that he trusts. It's madness really because nothing was there to show that removing Hill was the right move and eventually bringing in Madson was the proper solution. Watch Cora and he he is doing it. He is bringing in his best guys when he needs them. He has Price out there warming up again because it's the fucking World Series. Now, I am not going to give the FO a pass here either with regards to the BP. They have done some good work but when you have average arms and waiver wire level guys, you are eventually going to see them revert to what they are. That's Madson, Floro, Alexander etc. These are average guys who are not to be trusted in high leverage situations. You need hammers. For the record, I like Floro and Alexander as pieces. Not guys I turn to when I have the World Series on the line. Why the fuck is Ferguson picking splinters out of his ass while Alex Wood is on the roster? Oh, yeah he has a tired arm apparently. World Series guys.....he can rest in the offseason if he isn't torn up which apparently, he isn't. His arm is good enough to get one batter.
With two men on at that critical point, you bring in your hammer which is Baez. He has proven that that he can handle it right now. That's the fucking game at that point. Giving up a 3-run homerun is the absolute worst scenario possible at that at-bat and he did it to Moreland who has done nothing in the postseason.
Moving forward, Jansen isn't very good at this point and when you look at closers, they can go from great to bad in a hurry. I am concerned that he may not get it back. I hope he will but the guy has really hurt this team this year in key spots. Add in the health issues and you have a guy who could be an $80 million guy who can't close games consistently anymore and dies in the playoffs.
