Updated 2019 LAD Draft Signing Chart - Wednesday (7/10/19 @ 3:45pm)

26 of the 41 picks have signed.

With CBB Pick (RH Jimmy Lewis - #78) having been signed, the Dodgers have a maximum of
$478,254 to spend without exceeding the 105% threshold on their 2019 Draft Bonus Allotment.

While not enough to sign their 28th Round Pick (SS Brennan Milone - #851) out of his commitment
to South Carolina, there may be enough to grab another prospect or two.

Remember, for Picks starting in the 11th Round, the first $125,000 does not count towards the
bonus allotment.

All draftees must be signed prior to this Friday, July 12th at 5:00pm EST / 2:00pm PDT.

i read that Breyln Jones also signed. He had no firm college commitment, so I am thinking not much than $125K. I don't know if adding the remaining $450K that is out there is enough to get Chet Allison to walk away from Arkansas, but I think he would be the top target who hasn't signed yet. Maybe Fink, as it makes more sense for him to sign now, but as an older junior in '20, he might move up the draft charts with a good season.

I had read that Breyln Jones had signed as well, and originally had him listed as
SIGNED, but can not find him on any of the Dodgers Minor League Rosters.

That could just mean that he hasn't been assigned and will spend the rest of 2019 at
Camelback Ranch, receiving instruction, working out, and getting ready for 2020.

If I find confirmation, I will re-add him to the SIGNED group.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As far as possible targets for the remaining $478,254, I would hope they can secure
at least one of the following:

16 - 0491 - RH Andrew Baker
19 - 0581 - LH Braidyn Fink
21 - 0641 - OF Trey LaFleur
24 - 0731 - OF Chet Allison
30 - 0911 - RH Josh Ibarra
34 - 1031 - LH Francisco Martinez
37 - 1121 - OF Tres Gonzalez

One of either Fink, LaFleur, and Gonzalez would be my preference.

I like Allison's tools, but I do think the Dodgers will not find enough money to get him out of his commitment. Of course, getting Lewis inked for $1.1MM shocked me. I felt he would sign for close to first round money, not that $1.1MM is anything to complain about. Fink might be the most reasonable get. Either way, they got about 36 hours to get the pen to paper on one (or more) of these guys.

Lewis has an intimidating physique. A 6-6 200lb guy who can reach 95 at his age could easily fill out and pick up some more nasty to his pitches.

Kind of a different topic but who is on your list for RP's that you want AF to look into? I don't want them to go the Madsen/Axford route and just stick Strip in there as well. I don't think the kids from the farm should be tasked with that either in the playoffs.

I would rather have a guy with control for beyond the year but wouldn't complain if they went after Will Smith. I don't think Tony Watson is the answer. If this isn't the year that AF takes off the shackles and goes big on a BP arm, then I don't know when it will be that time.

It will be tough since the top 4 prospects May, Lux, Ruiz, & Smith are off limits. Every year the trade partner demands one or more of the top guys so AF doesn't get the big arm. BTW, I think those same 4 are also untouchables.

The Dodgers have signed 24th Round Pick (#731) OF Chet Allison.

Bonus details to follow once available.

Reports seem to indicate that it was "Money He Could Not Refuse", so probably
in the $500,000 to $600,000 range.

If the lower amount, the Dodgers would still have a little bit of money to try
and snag another prospect for around $225,000.

If they gave him all of the remaining slot money, then they are done.

The only "rumored" RP arm that I would give up one of the "Big 4" ( Ruiz / Lux / May / Smith ) for
would be LH Felipe Vazquez of the Pirates.

Not only would he solve our 8th inning / Set Up Man slot, he's under contract/team control for
an additional 4 years, at very reasonable cost.

19: $04.00 million
20: $05.25 million
21: $07.25 million
22: $10.00 million ( Club Option w/ $1.0 million Buyout )
23: $10.00 million ( Club Option w/ $0.5 million Buyout )

He'd also be the Backup Closer, give us depth in case Jansen opts out after the season, and
would be able to step into the Closer role in 2022 once Jansen's contract is up.

Something along these lines might interest them.

Pirates
CA Keibert Ruiz
RH Dennis Santana or RH Mitchell White
RH Josh Sborz
LH Scott Alexander

LH Felipe Vazquez

With the Indians getting closer and Pittsburgh still somewhat in it, the options are going to be limited. I could see them looking at Shane Greene but they need a LHP more than anything. Even Washington is back in it so Doolittle is probably less likely to be moved. The NL Central is a joke. You have the Reds in last place at 41-46 and they are only 4.5 games out.

If this were to happen, it means that the Dodgers don't expect Hill back, they have no confidence in Maeda and Stripling and Urias isn't a viable option for the playoffs as a SP and they want to keep him as a LH BP guy. Seems like a lot of bad has to factor in for the Dodgers to go after a SP that isn't a rental. I just don't see it happening. If it did, I wouldn't be surprised if they packaged Greene in there as well:

RH Dennis Santana or RH Mitchell White
RH Josh Sborz

Dodgers
LH Felipe Vazquez
The Pirates are only 2.5 games out of the division lead and 2.5 games out of a wild card spot. Add to that GM Neal Huntington has stated that Vazquez is NOT AVAILABLE, even if the Pirates do become sellers. This really means, at the very least, that we would have to blow them away with a huge prospect package, and that's not Friedman's modus operandi.

Boyd and Greene are interesting possibilities, but they both seem to be "buy high" candidates. Neither has a body of work prior to 2019 that foretold the kind of season they are having in 2019.

The Mets, Marlins, and Giants are considered out of a division or wild card spot in the NL. There is a bigger pool in the AL with the Orioles, Blue Jays, White Sox, Royals, Tigers, Mariners and Angels all looking at large deficits. There is only just over two weeks for a marginal NL team like the Reds to turn into full blown sellers.

I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with someone like Ian Kennedy, but we must do better.

The Pirates are one of the most amusing(in a bad way) teams out there. They are 2.5 games out with a .494 winning percentage. Just close enough that they think they have a chance but they should be thinking how the Padres thought and trying to get better rather than trading away guys like they did to get Archer. It may not be popular but they should try and move Vazquez now while he has max value. Get prospects and comeback strong because they aren't going to win a thing this year or anytime soon in that division. The Cubs, Brewers and Cardinals have too much money and talent.

The Padres are building a tough team down there because they realized they needed to reboot. They are going to be a strong opponent down the road.

Per Baseball America, 29th Round Pick (#881), SS Brelyn Jones signed for $125,000.

That is the max amount that can be offered to a Post 10th Round selection without
eating into the Draft Budget.

Good deal by the Dodgers.

Still waiting to see how much 24th Round Pick (#731), OF Chet Allison got and if they will
be able to secure anyone else before the 5:00pm EST / 2:00pm PDT deadline today.

There is about a half hour remaining until all deals with 2019 MLB Draft Picks must be confirmed.

Per Jim Callis

25th-rder Jonny DeLuca signs with @Dodgers for $300k ($175k counts vs bonus pool).

Oregon OF, contact hitter with CF skills and game mentality.

That leaves the Dodgers with a known Draft Bonus Pool of $305,754, meaning that
they could have offered OF Chet Allison as much as $430,754 to forgo his commitment
to Arkansas.

Still waiting on details of that transaction.

@DodgerInsider indicates that the Dodgers have signed 31 out of their 41 selections.

My count is at 29 right now, including Allison, Jones, and DeLuca.

That means that there is another 2 players signed that we haven't seen confirmation on yet.
