This is not an exoneration of Roberts, at Friedman's expense. It was Roberts who was talking about Kershaw coming in to relieve Buehler days in advance.
What I was referring to is even though Roberts publicly takes full credit/blame for his decisions and repeatedly says he is the one making them there are many in the media who say he is just following orders and covering for his boss. I called into Casey Stern's radio show last week to challenge him on that exact point. Stern thinks Roberts is terrific and every error he has made is not his fault. I asked him how does he know that Roberts is actually covering up for AF's decisions and not making the lineup and in game decisions on his own? I said it could be the case that he is following orders but how do you know whether or not that is what is going on behind the scenes? Stern's (non) response was "I don't know what type of job you have but it is typical of most jobs that workers have to do what their bosses tell them and protect their bosses". IMHO a monumentally stupid response. Of course he would have to do what he was told if he received orders but that is far from proof that he was in fact told what to do and I'd bet many/most of those decisions including when to pull pitchers are 100% on Doc.

Suggesting that a team wouldn't be prepared to face Kershaw (or Strasburg, or Scherzer, or Corbin) in a game 5/7 is idiotic. OF COURSE they would be prepared to face them, whether the manager announces it ahead of time or not.

Dave Martinez specifically said that Scherzer wasn't available.... do you honestly think the Dodgers weren't prepared for him anyway, just in case??

Bad take by Pedro.
I couldn't agree more. Pedro's comment was moronic. Every time some obscure batter comes up to pinch hit even in a non playoff game don't you see Honeycutt come to the mound to discuss a strategy to pitch to that guy? They obviously prepare for each and every guy on the roster they are facing for each and every game. To think they wouldn't have prepared to face Kershaw if it hadn't been tipped to them in advance is a joke.

This is going to be a really long period of time for Dodger fans until Spring Training. What sucks is that next year, no matter how many wins they get during the season, the media and critics are going to look at the past postseason failures and say it's irrelevant until they close it out.

There are also going to be a lot of people talking about Bellinger if he wins the MVP when you look at these stats:

1st Half .336, 107 Hits, 30 HR's, 71 RBI, 54 BB
2nd Half .261, 63 Hits, 17 HR's, 41 RBI, 41 BB

Dude just fell off a cliff when it mattered.
That's so true, yet where were those fabulous new hitting analysts and coaches they hired? Could they do nothing to "fix" Bellinger? And while they're at it, Seager?

I was really upset that year Matt Kemp got screwed out of the MVP by a juiced-up TestosteRyan Braun. I felt Kemp deserved it on his own, but that colossal cover up on Braun's lab results was an added travesty. However, this year I don't have a great deal of interest in whether Bellinger wins the MVP, and to a lesser extent, whether Ryu wins the Cy Young. The latter is unlikely but Bellinger might benefit from Yellich's September injury. Still, won't lose any sleep over it, either way. Bellinger was just a good player the second half of the season.

His drop off started even earlier than that. On May 28th, after the end of the 55th game, he was still batting hitting .382. In addition to his batting average dropping 46 points over the next 35 games until the All Star break:
First 55 games: 20HR 52 RBI
Next 35 games: 10HR 19 RBI

It won't just be the media and critics saying it. I'll be saying it too. 106 regular season wins don't mean shit to me, unless it's followed by 11 post season wins.

I should have added that, as if those comments were even necessary, both managers said on the day before the game that it was going to be "all hands on deck". What did Pedro think that comment meant as far as who you needed to prepare to possibly face?

Yeah, we just didn't know it was all hands on the deck of The Titanic.

According to the LA Times, Roberts will be back so we all know where the real goal lies with this FO. They want a babysitter and a guy who delivers the message more than a guy with any skills in game and roster management.

Not surprising at all.

If this organization insists on sticking with this generation's Grady Little, then they deserve all the postseason failure that comes to them.

You can begin to understand why Roberts is always so smug and full of hubris in his comments. The guy knows he is completely safe and can do whatever he wants without any fear.

It's really a shame that the organization turns a blind eye to this manager's fatal flaws. I guess we won't know what Friedman thinks since he wasn't available for comments after the game and wasn't granting interviews today. Hiding obviously.
