I hope the Dodgers don't regret not keeping Miller. Couldn't send Verdugo back down though. They do get the powerhouse back though in Joc who is hitting a whopping .067. Hopefully that's just a ST shitfest.

I find it quite interesting how many big time players are electing to extend contracts this year rather than face free agency. I wonder whether and when the Dodgers will join in on that trend.

Good thing the Dodgers have about a dozen starters...
Yeah, but all those guys are pitching like 3 or 4 innings. Hill is going on the IL to make matters worse. Guess what? The Dodgers have to face the Division minus Pads, then STL & MIL to start the season w/3/5ths of the rotation down. I really don't want to see them get off to a bad start like last year.

Buehler, Bellinger, and Seager would seem to be the most likely candidates.

Referring to Bregman's recent extension for reference to a close comp in performance and service time, would we be willing to do 6 years / $120M for Bellinger? That would take him through is age 29 season and his first two years of free agency. Leaving this year as is so as to not affect the 2019 payroll tax numbers, and adding a $10M signing bonus, the breakdown could looks something like $11M / $13M / $15M / $17M through his four arb years and then $27M for two years of free agency.

Referring to Snell's recent extension, would we be willing to do 7 years / $73M for Buehler? Again, leaving this season out, the breakdown could be $1.5M / $2.5M for his two years of team control, then $8M / $11M / $14M through arbitration, and two $18M (with escalators/bonuses for Cy Young finishes) free agent seasons. He would end the contract during his age 30 season.

I couldn't find or think of any comp for Seager's service time. Any ideas on him?

New Jersey (again)
So, the word, as of 10 minutes ago, is Ryu gets the nod. The likely rotation, until Kershaw and Hill come back, is reportedly Ryu, Stripling, Maeda, Buehler, and Urias (though the 5 slot will likely be by committee.)

Sure seems to be setting up like they will. I guess they like closing from behind like some racehorses do.

I wonder if the Dodgers would even consider offering a contract like that to Bellinger until he shows he is more like the rookie Bellinger than last year's version.

Possibly so. Although even last year he was a 4.0 WAR player, equal to his rookie year. And that includes NEGATIVE dWAR numbers both seasons due to that statistics complete inability to factor in multiple position players. We all know Bellinger is as far from a negative dWAR as any player in baseball.

March 23 and the Dodgers break camp today. That's one of the earliest spring get away dates other than when they did the Japan trip in 2008. Today's game is scheduled for noon PDT to accommodate an early departure. All of the equipment, luggage, etc. will be trucked back to L.A. I would guess most of the starters will not play into today's game, as they will or have gotten an early return home.

LOL The 3 worst ST offensive players are in this last game, Muncy/Taylor/Verdugo. Tell me results don't matter. Brock Stewart starting & nothing has changed w/him. He can't command or get outs. Hard to believe Roberts is seriously considering him for the 25 man.

There is going to be some young talented starting pitching in Oklahoma (Tulsa/OKC). Santana, Gosolin, Mays, White just to start.

Yes, and other than Taylor, they have not improved on their spring results.

Looks like the Dodgers have sent their message that their patience with Taylor and his approach is over. Kike has been given the starting 2B job and Taylor has been relegated to being a platoon player with the other guy who isn't on the list of favorites anymore: Joc.

Taylor is at a crossroads in that this team has a new approach to hitting with Van Scoyoc.

Isn't Scoyoc the one credited for changing & improving CT3's swing?

I think that Van Scoyoc put into place the fundamentals like what he did with others but the swing seems to have changed. It's like anything else in that Taylor probably has altered things since the original changes but hasn't been able to get back to what worked originally.

You look at a guy like JD Martinez who Van Scoyoc worked with and he has held the changes and stayed consistent while Taylor has fallen off a cliff.
